The 10th Edition of CHERRIES FESTIVAL
18,19 & 20 July 2009
Under the auspices of IOV and Greek Dance Archives
In Pella of Macedonia, the home land of the legendary Greek King, Alexander the Great, and in the picturesque Archangelos, at the beautiful municipal open stone-theatre, the 10th edition of Cherries Festival will take place in 17,18 &19, July 2009 , under of the Auspices of the International Organization of Folk Art IOV- in operational relations with UNESCO and of the Pan-Hellenic Foundation Greek Dance Archives
The event will be organized by the Educational & Cultural Association of Vlachs from Archangelos, with the contribution of the Municipal Administration of Cultural Development of Exaplatanos and the Prefecture of Pella.
In the 10th edition of Cherries Festival of Archangelos, will participate very remarkable dancing groups, members of IOV-UNESCO, from Greece and abroad.
From the beautiful city of Far East, Seoul, the capital city of South Korea, will participate an important group , the “BAN SOOK JIN DANCE COMPANY”.
This company was founded in 1980 in Seoul and will perform Korean traditional art dances.
The Art Director is, Mrs. Ban Sook Jin , who has studied Korean traditional dance & art, for more than 20 years.
Every year the group is participating in numerous International Festivals, in Korea and abroad
The BAN SOOK JIN DANCE COMPANY consists of about 100 adult dancers, performing over 20 shows with many soloists. In the 10th edition of the Cherries Festival they will present their dances in eight different traditional costumes of Korea.
BAN SOOK JIN DANCE COMPANY has been awarded many times.
IOV Hellas and Greek Dance Archives would like to express their deep appreciation also to the IOV Secretary of South Asia and Head of IOV Korea, Mr. MOON HYUNG SUK for the realization of the participation of BAN SOOK JIN DANCE COMPANY in Pella of Macedonia this year !
From the City of “Legend and Tradition”, the magnificent Ioannina of Epirus region, the Department of Traditional Dances Cultural Center of the Municipality of Ioannina, an IOV member and important partner of Greek Dance Archives, will also participate this year,
The Department of Traditional Dances Cultural Center of the Municipality of Ioannina founded in 1984
It can present 400 different dances, 130 traditional songs, acts and traditional games from many regions of Greece
For more than four hundred times, the Folk Dance Department has given performances in Greece and all over the world, participating in important events
It has participated in Greek national TV broadcasts (ERT, ALPHA, MEGA, ANTENNA etc) and in satellite broadcasts.
It has been awarded several times.
300 dancers are attending its courses, and their wardrobe has more than 150 costumes, accurate copies of the old traditional Greek costumes.
The President of the Cultural center is Mr Nikolaos Fais
Mr. Ilias Gartzonikas,and Mr Nikos Nousias are responsible for the administration and the training. And the General Secretary is Mr. George Barboutis.
During their stay in Pella all dancers and musicians will be accommodated in the picturesque Hotel Paradosiako of Loutraki.
The Association of Archangelos very gladly will organize for all the groups, visits to museums of Pella and Vergina, to the Thermal Natural Springs of Pozar Loutraki, as well as, to the city of Edessa and its waterfalls!
