It gives us great pleasure to announce that the GREEK DANCE ARCHIVES and the FOUNDATION HASDER of Cyprus,  have worked for the 3rd Part of THE EUROPEAN PROGRAM “PEOPLE TO PEOPLE CONTACT ACTIVITIES - LIVING TOGETHER”,which aims at the expansion of communication and the exchange of knowledge and experience on issues of folk culture, which would contribute to understanding of differences and would promote cooperation and friendship between young members of both Sectors.
The third part of this European Project took place in Cyprus from the 26th of December to the 1st of January 2010

A Greek delegation consisting of Administration Councilors and colleagues of GREEK DANCE ARCHIVES have visited Cyprus and have also spent the New Year Eve with Hasder and its members.

The Greek delegation was hosted at the prestigious Holiday Inn -Hotel of Nicosia and  meetings were held in the beautiful  Halls and Lounges  of the Hasder Foundation.

A welcome was given by the President of Hasder Foundation, Mr. Ali Nebih   and by the President of Greek Dance Archives, Mr.  Christos Tentzerakis.

Many visits to Museums and to the old city of Nicosia took place , as well as, visits and sightseeing in  beautiful cities of Cyprus.

The Greek delegation was also very impressed and moved during the visit to the to day Icons Museum in ancient Salamis near Ammoxostos (Famagousta),  the former Holly Monastery of Apostle Saint Barnabas.
Saint Varnavas or Barnabas, was a Cypriot and he is equal to the 12 Disciples of Christ and the first among the 70 Apostles. Saint Varnavas founded the Church of Cyprus, one of the oldest churches of Christianity and it is Apostolic
Until the Turkish invasion of 1974, in the monastery lived the last three elderly monks, the brothers, Barnabas, Charitonas and Chrysanthos, who were great icon painters and Byzantine musicians from Tremetousia who remained there for two more years until 1976 and then had to leave the Monastery of Saint Varnavas. The original icons of the iconostasis of the Church of the monastery of Saint Varnavas are missing and unfortunately, the icons in the small icon museum have nothing to do with the icons that were in the place.

During the 3rd Part of this European Project- “Living Together”, mutual understanding and friendships between different cultures has contributed to the peaceful coexistence of peoples and cultures proving that common interests, love for folk culture, communication, relationships and friendly co-operations, can indeed overcome established historic impediments.
